Cards/Membership
In order to get discounts in our hostels, you need to have a HI-card, which you will be asked to show when checking in. You can buy this card at your home country Hostelling International Office (Youth Hostel Association).
It is a basic principle of the Youth Hostel movement that hostels shall be open only to guests holding a valid Youth Hostel membership card, or Hostelling International Card, or to members of a group covered by an approved Group/Organization card. National Associations may make exception to this principle in the case of their own nationals at home but not in the case of guests from other countries.
There must be no discrimination against any potential member on account of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class or political opinions.
Associate Organizations affiliated to IYHF must recognize the membership cards issued by all other national Associations and must treat the holders of these cards on precisely the same basis as their own members (who must buy a Hostelling International card to hostel abroad).
AGE DIVISIONS
Possession of a member card endorsed 'Junior' or 'Juvenile' does not automatically entitle the holder to benefit by any reduction in overnight fees granted to national members in that category, unless the holder's actual age is within the limit laid down by the Association in the country visited.
FOREIGN VISITORS ARRIVING WITHOUT A MEMBERSHIP CARD
In principle, a person wishing to use Youth Hostels must obtain a membership card from the Youth Hostel Association in the country in which he normally resides.
Short-term foreign visitors, who are not already Youth Hostels members, must be issued with a Hostelling International Card.
Guests arriving at youth hostel can also buy Welcome Stamps at the reception. After collecting 6 Welcome Stamps, the guest automatically mecomes a member.
LOST MEMBERSHIP CARDS
If a foreign visitor claims that he has lost his Youth Hostel membership card, he may only be admitted to a Youth Hostel if he obtains a Hostelling International Card.
Member who has purchased a Hostelling International Card will not normally receive any refund from his home Association except under special circumstances. Any refund of such nature will be at his home Association's expense.
FAMILY MEMBERSHIP
Family membership, issued by some national Associations is recognized by the International Youth Hostel Federation. For international use, each individual member of the family must however be issued with their own membership card, which conforms to the international specification.
Individual members, if so wished, can be identified by the word JUN/FAM (Junior of a Family) or SEN/FAM (Senior of a Family) in the category field as appropriate.
